Ambitious Oxford United have recruited  The Video Coach to help them in their bid to return to the Football League at the first attempt.

Manager Jim Smith believes the service provided will make a significant difference as he attempts to blend together a fresh squad of players for the challenge of the Nationwide Conference.

The experienced campaigner chose The Video Coach after looking at our detailed analysis service which studies the performance of the team both tactically and technically to help the coaching staff give clearer feedback as well as understand their own strengths and weaknesses.

The process begins by shooting a dedicated film of the match in wide angle format, which is stored directly to a high power laptop computer.  This enables the manager and coaching staff to find an instant replay of key incidents - even at half time if they want to.

Then the Video Coach analyst studies the match through a detailed software package which "tags" key events, enabling a complete statistical overview of the game to be built up.

Lastly the software collects together the individual clips of films to highlight particular parts of the performance.  For instance the manager might want the team to look at every time they got into crossing positions on the right hand side, and the computer would immediately bring up all those clips of film sorted into the times when a cross was delivered effectively and the times when it wasn't.

Smith said:  “It’s a top class system and will provide us with all the analysis we will need. It allows us to highlight certain things and work with individual players as well as looking at team shape and pattern of play. It is great to have this technology available and I’m sure it will be a massive asset.”

Video Coach managing director Ralph Ellis said:  "We're delighted to have agreed a contract to work with Oxford, and we are looking forward to making a contribution to their promotion campaign - and then hopefully continuing to work together in the Football League."
